Hello! I am Mahmudul Alam Shakib. I am a 4th year PhD student at the University of Iowa. My research works are focused on materials for brain-inspired computing applications with the help of novel memristors. I fabricate, model, and characterize memristor devices from geopolymers, a type of low-cost ceramics. Also, I characterize mechanical properties of ceramics and nano composites from nano scale to micro and macro scale. All these research are housed in the Smart Multifunctional Material Systems (SMMS) Lab at the University of Iowa under the supervision of Dr. Caterina Lamuta.

Prior to joining the University of Iowa, I was an undergraduate research assistant in the Soil Science division at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, where I worked on my senior year research work on the Production of Biofuel from Locally Sourced Microalgae.

I did my bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Islamic University of Technology in 2017, where I led the college robotics team consisting of 63 members at the University Rover Challenge 2017 that took place in the Mars Dessert Research Station, Utah. My robotics teams secured several national championships in 2016 and 2017 along with becoming 2nd among asian teams in European Rover Challenge 2015.
