North South University’s startup platform, NSU Startup Next (NSUSN), hosted a special event titled “Entrepreneur’s Innovation Engine” in collaboration with the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA). The event aimed to inspire and support student innovators, offering them exposure to national-level technological resources and entrepreneurial guidance.
BHTPA was invited by NSUSN to engage with selected student innovators and explore future opportunities for collaboration. A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between North South University (NSU) and BHTPA, laying the groundwork for future technological support for NSU students.
The event was honored by the presence of Dr. Md. Mokhles Ur Rahman, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration; Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of NSU; and Monjur Mohammad Shahriar, Project Director of BHTPA’s DEIED Project. Also present were Mr. Benajir Ahmed, NSU Trustee and former President of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Muhammad Arifur Rahman from Accelerating Bangladesh, a representative from the University Innovation Hub Program (UIHP), and Aminul Islam, CEO of AyyKori Digital.

Climate Resilient Infrastructure for Sustainable Community Life in the Haor Region of Bangladesh
The Halia Haor region in Sunamganj faces escalating climate challenges such as flooding, erosion, and unpredictable weather patterns that threaten local communities’ livelihoods and ecosystems. To address these vulnerabilities, Padakhep Manobik Unnayan Kendra (PMUK), under the guidance of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and funded by the German Federal Environment Ministry’s IKI Small Grants Scheme, has implemented the Climate Resilient Infrastructure (CRI) project in Lambabak Hati. This initiative includes the construction of erosion-resistant gravity retaining walls, planting flood-tolerant native trees, and the development of elevated safe community spaces. Designed with a deep respect for the unique haor ecosystem, these interventions enhance flood resilience, protect agricultural assets, and support biodiversity. PMUK remains committed to empowering the resilient communities of Halia Haor through sustainable and adaptive infrastructure solutions.

In June 2022, amidst the worst flooding in over a century in northeastern Bangladesh, Chillox, a prominent fast-food chain, and its brand ambassador, Tawhid Afridi, spearheaded a three-day humanitarian mission in Sunamganj. The floods had submerged approximately 94% of Sunamganj, displacing millions and devastating infrastructure .
Demonstrating unwavering commitment, Afridi personally navigated the flood-affected areas, delivering essential supplies and financial aid. The relief operation was funded jointly by Chillox and Afridi himself, ensuring immediate assistance to those in dire need.
The initiative garnered widespread appreciation, highlighting the impactful role of private enterprises and public figures in disaster response. Inauguration of NSU’s Media & Journalism Program
In August 2022, North South University (NSU) inaugurated its Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) in Media and Journalism (MAJ) program under the Department of Political Science & Sociology. The launch event featured a roundtable discussion titled “কেমন মিডিয়া গ্র্যাজুয়েট চাই” (“What Kind of Media Graduate Do We Want?”), bringing together prominent figures from Bangladesh’s media and communication sectors.
The ceremony was graced by former NSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Atique Islam and attended by representatives from leading organizations such as The Daily Star, Grameenphone, ATN Bangla, and Dot Birth. Their participation underscored the program's commitment to aligning academic instruction with industry standards.
