Who We Are?

Having accomplished the Manchester Marathon in 2021, we decided to establish the Shah Jahan Running Community. Our primary aim is to motivate individuals within our community to embrace a more active lifestyle through consistent exercise. Recognizing the Shah Jahan Mosque as a symbol that binds our community, we chose it as both the starting and finishing point for our runs.

Our objective is to offer free weekly running sessions commencing and concluding at the Shah Jahan Mosque, with the aim of fostering physical, spiritual, and mental development.

By participating in the Shah Jahan Running Community you will meet like minded people and maintain your motivation through regular running. The individuals in the group come from varying abilities and fitness levels. Whether you're a complete beginner opting to start with walking or a seasoned runner preparing for competitive events, all are welcome.

To facilitate this journey, we plan to implement the Couch to 5K program—a recognized plan that has assisted over 4 million people in initiating their running journey. Utilising this NHS-approved program, we will guide you to gradually enhance your fitness levels.

Couch to 5K

If you've been inactive for a while or are just commencing your fitness journey, consider embarking on the Couch to 5k program. This structured plan begins with walking, gradually progressing to running. Once you can maintain a steady walking pace for approximately 30 minutes, incorporate intervals of running at a comfortable speed.

Initiate each run with a gentle warm-up lasting about 5 minutes. This can involve activities such as walking, marching on the spot, knee lifts, side-stepping, or climbing stairs.

For individuals recovering from an injury or with concerns about an existing condition, it is advisable to consult with your GP or physiotherapist before embarking on a running regimen.
