The career that I have decided to pursue is mechanical engineering. I chose this career a few years ago because, ever since I was little, I have been fascinated by how things work. I would always ask my parents the question “why”; my parents got so sick of me asking the question why, they banned me from saying the word. My dad noticed my interest in how things work and why things work, so he suggested going into mechanical engineering, but I had my heart set on going to the medical field because of my parents being in that field. One day in the summer of 8th grade, going into 9th grade, my family and I decided to visit the National Air and Space Museum just for fun. At that museum, seeing the way rockets are made, the amount of time and effort that goes into making them, how fun and innovative the space is, I knew mechanical engineering for the career for me.The classes I have taken thus far will help me achieve my goal of being a mechanical engineer is AP Computer Science, AP Physics, and AP Calc AB. I joined the Engineering program at the Tec Center to help me achieve my dream. Some experiences that I will learn this year will be how to make things with wood and how to use a saw, learn how to 3D print, and I will also learn robotics.
Some extracurricular activities I have participated in are being Vice President for the class of 2027, Junior Representative for National Honor Society, also being a part of the student leadership council, chair of the advocacy committee within the Student Government Association, a freshman mentor, and board member of Student to Student (s2s). With all of these roles, they have taught how to organize and lead big groups of people, communicate with others, network, and give public speeches. Some activities that I have participated in outside of school that would help me in mechanical engineering are how I was a co-team leader of the team fly4acure, which raised over $87,000 towards blood cancer in 7 weeks under the Student Visionaries program with LLS. Under this student program, I learned how to problem-solve quickly, communicate with others, and learn how to organize myself.
When I graduate from high school, I will attend a 4-year college or university because I think this is the best way to get exposure within my field, and also to make connections for internships and future jobs. Currently, I don’t think my plan will change with time. With that, I will also continue my training and do a master's program after undergrad.
After achieving my goal, I hope I will make a positive impact on the community, society, and world I live in. I hope I can make it more innovative by finding easier ways to do things while also making less waste. In the future, if I attain my dream, I want to definitely utilize renewable energy and use it to my advantage, so we don’t produce as many greenhouse gases/emissions
