The Global Summer School Series
One of my main goals is to increase the involvement of mathematicians - of all academic ages - in data science research. With that in mind, Peter Bartlett (Google Deep mind and UC Berkeley), Gabor Lugosi (UPF), Roman Versynin (UC Irvine) and I created a graduate school series, held annually during the Northern Hemisphere summer.
We would like to show graduate maths students and early career researchers that data science is a truly exciting mathematical research area, exposing them to high-quality modern research on the mathematical foundations of data science.
The summer school will be a global event: its venue will change from year to year.
The first installment was held in June 2024 in Darwin, NT Australia. The next summer school is organised by Emmanuel Abbé, Nicolas Boumal and Lénaïc Chizat and will take place at the Bernoulli Center, EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland.
In 2026 the school will be organised by Jonathan Scarlett and will be held at the IMS, National University Singapore.
