Dr. Shafer's research considers a broad spectrum of actinide science. Efforts span from assessing the fundamental chemistry of the heaviest available elements to responsible stewardship of nuclear materials in the fuel cycle. To accomplish these goals, a multi-disciplinary research group has been assembled that consists of students seeking graduate degrees in either nuclear engineering or chemistry.
