I am Shafayat Ahmed, a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at Virginia Tech, specializing in Computational Biology under the guidance of Dr. Liqing Zhang. My research focuses on developing computational methods for biological sequence analysis and bioinformatics, with an emphasis on deep learning, protein language models, and predictive modeling for real-world biomedical applications.
I hold a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Before and during my graduate studies, I built a diverse professional background through roles in software engineering, research, and data science, including industry and academic experiences in multinational companies and research labs.
My work spans bioinformatics, machine learning, and data-driven modeling, including projects in antimicrobial resistance gene characterization, protein function prediction, and antibody developability. I am passionate about building robust and interpretable computational tools that can support scientific discovery and translational research.
I am currently seeking opportunities in Data Science, Computational Biology, and Bioinformatics Research Scientist roles, where I can contribute to impactful, interdisciplinary research in a dynamic and innovative environment.
