To our Members, Prospective Members, and Parents,  

Hey Shabak! With September behind us, we’re excited for an amazing October filled with fun, meaningful, and exciting events! From Standing Strong with TribeTalk to S’mores and Charades, Social Action, Chapter Shabbat, and Two-Touch Football, there’s something for everyone this month! October also gives us the opportunity to come together as a chapter, support our community, and spend time with friends. We hope to see everyone at as many events as possible and can’t wait to make October another great month for Shabak!

Meet our new advisor, Justin!

Justin Laken is our new advisor and new to the Deerfield Area. Originally from New Jersey, he is a UIUC 2020 graduate with a BFA in Graphic Design. Justin is eager to make an impact on the Shabak chapter and in the North Shore Jewish community. When Justin isn’t spending time with his fiancée and walking their puppy, he’s watching sports and rooting for the Bulls!

Upcoming Dates and Events:

Standing Strong With Tribe Talk, an October 7th Tribute Program

Wednesday, October 7th | 7 - 8:30 PM | Northbrook JCC

On the third anniversary of the October 7 attacks, join BBYO and TribeTalk for Standing Strong, an interactive workshop designed to give Jewish teens the confidence and tools to recognize antisemitism, respond when they encounter it, and stand strong in their Jewish identity.

S’mores and Charades

Wednesday, October 14th | 7 - 8:00 PM | Adam Blonder’s House

Join us for a fun-filled night of making s’mores, playing charades with the chapter, and relaxing around the fire.

Save the Date – Invite Convention Registration will open on October 19th

Invite Convention will be the weekend of December 4th at the Renaissance Hotel in Northbrook. There will be a Parent Reception on the evening of Saturday, December 5th. Look out for more information when registration opens!

Social Action Project, Wednesday, October 21st @ JCC

A hands-on service project where we will be making cold weather kits for Connections for the Homeless. If you are interested in donating one or more items, see the sign-up spreadsheet for more info.

Chapter Shabbat with JBA

Friday, October 23rd | 6:30 - 8:00 PM | Gabby Wiener’s House

Chapter Shabbat with JBA! On October 23rd we plan on hosting a Shabbat at Gabby Wiener’s house. The event will be a camp style Shabbat with services, a bonfire, s’mores, and food!

Two-Touch Football with Ometz

Wednesday, October 28th | 7 - 8:00 PM | JCC

As October comes to an end, you can find us at the JCC for a Two-Touch Football game against the boys of Ometz representing Sulley of Monsters inc.
