TEACHING METHODS ADOPTED TO IMPROVE STUDENT LEARNING:

1. LCD and talk is the main method of teaching. In addition to that other techniques are used. Some of them are Debates, Discussions; Real-life events are used during classroom teaching to help the students understand particular issues.

2. Syllabus related Films, YouTube videos, and documentaries as pedagogical tool. Shows followed by discussion.

3. The students are encouraged to give their opinions which help them to think independently and express themselves.

4. Study Tours and Outreach programmes.

5. Experiential Learning Activities to Engage Students

SWOC ANALYSIS OF THE DEPARTMENT AND FUTURE PLANS:

STRENGTHS: Dedicated staff member. Students are survivors even though they belong to the disadvantaged section of society. They are either working of get jobs after completion of the program.

WEAKNESS: There is still less awareness of the subject among students especially from 90% of rural background area. Kalyana- Karnataka (Earlier it is Hyderabad Karnataka

Its syllabus does not contain outreach exercises officially

OPPORTUNITIES: Sociology is a subject which of relevance to the society and students can be encouraged to become Teaching, Social research, Social work, City management, Criminal justice, Policy making, Business consultancy, Politics, Rural and Urban planning, Public administration-civil services, Child welfare and health care, Gerontology ( Study of old age people), Military intelligence and military, Entrepreneurship, International relations, Industry and Professions-Medicine, Law and establish their own NGOs.

CHALLENGES: Since they are working and come from marginalized section of the society it is a challenge to maintain their concentration in the classroom.
