Context:
In these two paintings, relationships between painted surfaces, forms and colours create shifting directions and tensions. A reflecting pool sits somewhere in the background of this thinking. Nothing settles into a single, fixed reading; the eye is drawn across the surface, redirected and returned to details that alter how the painting is seen.
The paintings are distinct, but both explore the possibility that a change in position or relationship can change the character of the whole. What might appear to be a simple adjustment becomes a means of opening up other ways of seeing.
