Matrix - Paintings
In Brief:
Matrix is a 36-panel work in which subtly shifting slanted lines move sequentially across each canvas, creating a unified composition. The piece explores geometry, movement, and order through gradual change and visual rhythm.
Context:
Matrix - (Formally Dividing Grid)
Oil on canvas, 36 panels, each 31×31cm, typically hung 3cm apart, total display just under 200×200cm
Matrix is a 36-canvas exploration of space, movement, and structure. Each canvas contains two slanted lines, one roughly vertical and one roughly horizontal. The lines shift slightly from one canvas to its neighbour in a deliberate, sequential progression, beginning at the top-left and gradually moving across and down to divide each space.
Together, the 36 panels form a unified composition, each subtle shift contributing to a continuous visual rhythm. The arrangement of the lines creates changing relationships across the canvases, forming patterns that emerge across the full work.
Matrix is a meditation on geometry, proportion, and the unfolding of form, showing how order, movement, and subtle change structure the framework into an interconnected composition.
