Australia - Drawings
During time in Australia, friends made me welcome and I spent some days with them on the rural property Kirriwah, near Tooraweenah in New South Wales.
One day, we travelled across rough terrain on the back of a Ute, stopping to take in basalt formations, eagles’ nests, and sweeping vistas, before descending into a valley that reminded me of Doone Valley from my childhood readings of Lorna Doone.
Good company, food from the barbecue, genuine Billy tea, and the cool stream beneath a rocky escarpment made it a perfect day. The afternoon light from the ridge, the distant Warrumbungle Ranges, and the pale winter grass with muted greens of Kurrajong trees made it even more memorable.
The sketches were done during my time in Australia. Some were inspired by the landscapes around Kirriwah, others by places I visited across the country, including the Warrumbungles and Uluru. Some sketches and drawings were lost along the way, but those that remain carry the memory of a remarkable time.
