The Search for Meaning in Our Trials
28 July 2018
Written by Diyana Nasir
1) Ustaz Khairi Nazron: "My teacher recommended me to pray istikharah everyday. If you can't make it daily, make it once a week. Make it consistent. InsyaAllah Allah will guide you through your decisions in life."
2) Ustaz Mizi Wahid: "Have good assumptions towards Allah. This is where we need to trust Him, that He has your best interests at heart.. Trials could be a way to raise your stature. Sometimes the tests are a sign of His love."
3) Ustaz Taufiq Radja Nurul Bahri: "We need to embrace the idea that we need to mature. And the levels of spiritual maturity are patience, forbearance and grace. A person who is also mature is a person who is linked to or is never disconnected from responsibilities."
4) Ustaz Taufiq Radja Nurul Bahri: "The height of a true Muslim with regards to relationship with Allah is trust and love."

Amazed By The Quran conference
28 November 2015
Written by Diyana Nasir
Some snippets from the conference, organized by Pristine Ilm and Bayyinah:
1) Ustadz Nouman Ali Khan: "You and I would have to constantly ask ourselves: what more could I accomplish? Push yourself - physically, intellectually, you have to push yourself in every front. Engaging in this world for the right reasons is deen. We submit our worldly life for a higher goal. Ask Allah to give you the capability to actualize your strengths."
2) Ustadz Nouman Ali Khan: "Khair suggests good material things and good deeds. You don't have to be afraid of the material; you have to put it to work. Use it to do something good. Every time somebody benefits from the good that you do, Allah gives you more. No task is insignificant.. Don't live a life of comparison. Don't wish for things that Allah give others preference over you."
3) Ustadz Nouman Ali Khan also shared how seeking forgiveness is not just for sins, but also when doing things that are good (as perhaps they have been done in a manner that's not good enough). *Didn't manage to get this quote verbatim
4) Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda: "When you look at someone not conducting themselves in the ideal manner, be very careful of passing judgement of them and dismissing them. See the good in people, recognizing the good that people have."
5) Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda: "When we find ourselves in turmoil, when we find ourselves in difficulty, start by praying even when your heart is not fully into it. What it will do, it will give you resolve. It will provide more relief than you can imagine. Have your own personal, meaningful, validating relationship with Allah."
6) Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda: "How do we get quality in our prayer? It's gonna take some work. Nothing worth having comes without some type of work. Understanding what you say, what you read, is a game-changer."
7) Imam Omar Suleiman: "What you ask Allah says a lot about you. That says a lot about the priority in your heart. Two thirds of your du'a should be dedicated to the hereafter."
8) Imam Omar Suleiman: "The greatest blessing is Allah being pleased with you. Learn to be productive. Try to pursue things as right as you can. And one of the greatest comforts when you're leaving this world, is that you will join the believing souls."
9) Imam Omar Suleiman: "Strength in the sight of Allah is acknowledging your weakness to Allah. Whether it's physical or spiritual weakness. Ask Allah for pardon and relief. Ask Allah to get you out of the difficult situation."

Best of Generations Revived
27 November 2011
Written by Diyana Nasir
Speakers: Ustaz Mohd Kamal Mokhtar, Ustaz Taufiq Radja Nurul Bahri & Ustaz Hidayat Radja Nurul Bahri
1) A young person who is engaged in the worship of Allah and struggles in His path, is the most amazing thing and gets the shade of Allah’s protection.
2) We need to be mindful of these internal problems: Al-Ghaflah (Heedlessness) – of choosing not to do something when one is able to; and A Case of Distractions – of having priorities wrong. “What do we occupy ourselves with?”
3) We mustn’t have a utopic understanding of the Sahabah or thinking they’re perfect in every sense. They did mistakes and face problems too. Not all were masters of Islamic knowledge. But despite them having weaknesses, Allah s.w.t still deems them “Khaira Ummah” because they were consistently and constantly committed towards religion. They didn’t lack in faith and devotion.
4) Parents to encourage children to interact and mingle with adults: they would develop and mature faster. As in the case of ‘Abdullah ibn Abbas sitting amongst the company of the Prophet and other senior companions.
5) There needs to be a balance between Tahannus (secluding oneself once in a while, so that one may think more consciously by being away from pressures) and Al-Mu’ayashah: Living in the moment and actively participating in society.

NUSMS Forum: Role of Islamic Education in Developing Community Excellence
12 February 2011
Written by Diyana Nasir
Speakers: Associate Prof Syed Muhd Khairudin Aljunied, Ustaz Mohamad Hasbi Hassan, Assistant Prof Walid Jumblatt Abdullah, Ustaz Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Karim & Ustazah Sharifah Farah Aljunied
Among the points which caught my interest:
1) The Masyaikh System and Discipleship; that the best form of Islamic Education is to learn from a master, or pengajian bersanad. Of the need to revive it, and the urgency to have specialists and walking icons in the many realms of knowledge.
