The Sogang Counseling Psychology Scientist–Practitioner (CPSP) Lab emphasizes the integration of research and practice, a core value traditionally upheld in counseling psychology.
The CPSP Lab is operated by Professor Kyu Jin Yon and counseling psychology graduate students at the Department of Psychology. The lab conducts research that can be applied in real-world practice and promotes evidence-based learning in counseling, fostering the balanced professional development of future counselors. Our current projects focus on developing measures and implementing Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM) systems, as well as exploring the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in counseling practice. We also conduct studies on career counseling, multicultural counseling, and digital counseling—including ChatGPT-assisted counseling and video-based counseling—to examine attitudes and perceptions toward emerging counseling modalities. Through the development of data-driven outcome measurement and feedback systems, the CPSP Lab seeks to scientifically support meaningful change in counseling settings. Guided by the Scientist–Practitioner model, we aim to cultivate collaborative, reflective, and competent counselors who can bridge the gap between research and practice and make meaningful contributions to society.
