SFX SCIENCE
CLASS OVERVIEW
If there is one thing this past decade has demonstrated, it is that science has evolved into the central core of all human beings. We can all agree that our contemporary lives have never before been so complex and challenging to the point where comprehending the fundamentals of science is critical to making sense of everything around us. Science is undeniably the key. In order to promote our student's knowledge in science I developed the following overview...
TK & K
Science for students in transitional kinder & kindergarten should be driven by exploration and scientific principles. It’s a fundamental first impression for them. They should be encouraged to ask questions about every-day things they observe. Mainly, students in the kindergarten level would be working with the observation and hypothesis stages of the scientific method. A great way to do this, is by being able to fully engage them in activities that help develop both their fine, and gross motor skills. With movement in a safe environment and being able to identify colors, shapes, textures, and so much more.
1st
Science for 1st grade students builds off of the established principles learned in kindergarten. It’s a way for them to demonstrate what they have previously learned through more experiments and projects. However, they will be using more scientific vocabulary to describe their observations, learn how to design and conduct their own experiments. They will be fully engaging in the scientific method by being able to observe a scenario being presented to them, make a hypothesis, conduct an experiment, and describe the outcome. On top of this, they will explore science outside of everyday observations such as learning about the solar system and the various components of our earth. This will allow the students to find science amusing and stay engaged.
2nd
Second grade science allows the student to become a bit more independent. It helps them incorporate previous knowledge while also learning about new things. Science in this grade should aim to engage the student in a meaningful interaction and increase the students will to learn more. In second grade, students are becoming more aware of their surroundings, thus it is important to incorporate values such as eco-friendliness. It also aims to help them build the ability to set self-goals by learning about various scientists and encouraging them to be inventors. It should also aim to provide students with the resources necessary to perform health-enhancing behaviors.
3rd
Third grade science is all about being able to work collaboratively with other classmates for a purpose. Students will demonstrate the ability to compare and contrast, follow the scientific method, and explain certain concepts using scientific terms. It is a great way to promote teamwork and promote tolerance towards different views. This will help promote student knowledge on the interaction between science and real life scenarios.
About me
Greetings from our science lab!
My name is Mr. Zamora, and I am so excited to be your science teacher for the 2020-2021 school year!
This year has definitely proved to be full of many obstacles but as any outstanding scientist, we must embrace these challenges head on and remain resilient until we prove to be greater than them.
What comes to your mind when you hear the word science? I hope it's much more than Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics! I believe that in order to learn science, it must be hands-on and super fun! I hope we can make this possible even through our virtual classroom setting.
A little bit about me... I was born in Racine, Wisconsin! Boy was it cold there! I am both an English and Biology Major. In my free time, I enjoy going outdoors, playing sports, and having a cup of coffee. I am currently furthering my education in hopes of one day accomplishing my goal and become a pediatrician!
My goal this year is to pass down my love of science to all of you in a way that makes you engaged and excited within a healthy environment.
