SFUSD is celebrating the eighth full year of our Mariachi music program. Students grades 1 -12 from eight schools participate in learning this traditional music form. SFUSD is proud to demonstrate a new model, not just for what music classes could be, but for what arts instruction can look like in our urban educational landscape of diverse learners and cultures.
In this program, music teachers and community teaching artists train and work together in tandem towards the goal of welcoming a diverse set of students to become musicians and to bring this beautiful music back to our families and our community. SFUSD Mariachi team and teaching artists from San Francisco's Community Music Center work with guest teachers each year. The work we do together translates to the music instruction in the weekly classes and ultimately, to wonderful performances. Teaching Mariachi authentically, and the opportunity to learn from culture bearers, is vital to the success of this program.
¡La cultura cura! What better way to connect students, families and schools as through the arts and culture!

SFUSD está celebrando el octavo año del programa de música de Mariachi con los estudiantes del primer a doceavo grado de las nueve escuelas que participan en la enseñanza de este género de música tradicional. SFUSD se enorgullece de demostrar un nuevo modelo, no sólo con respecto a las clases de música, sino también a lo que se refiere a la instrucción artística de nuestro muy diverso panorama educativo urbano, repleto de estudiantes y culturas diferentes.
En este programa, maestros de música y artistas comunitarios enseñan y trabajan en conjunción con el objetivo de dar la bienvenida a un grupo diverso de estudiantes para así ayudarles a convertirse en músicos y traer esta hermosa música de nuevo a nuestras familias y a nuestra comunidad. El equipo de Mariachi del SFUSD y los artistas del Centro Comunitario de Música de San Francisco trabajan con los maestros invitados cada año. El trabajo que hacemos juntos se traduce en la instrucción musical en las clases semanales y, en última instancia, en maravillosas actuaciones. Enseñar el estilo auténtico de la música de mariachi y tener la oportunidad de aprender directamente de los portadores de la cultura es vital para el éxito de este programa.
