Season 2 Episode 22 -Changes
All newly diagnosed community members with diabetes and their families/caregivers are invited and encouraged to attend this class. This class will cover the differences between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, Medications used to manage diabetes including insulin, and the newer GLP1-RA medications, like Ozempic Lastly, we will discuss the team approach to managing diabetes to prevent complications..
Classes will be every second Thursday, at the Blue Door, 1-2:30 PM.
Attendees should bring ALL their medications and testing device equipment (device, strips if using fingerstick, sensor reader).
The Native Food for Life Online (NFFLO) Program to Prevent and Reverse Diabetes is a FREE course offered by the American Indian Institute for people who have type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes or gestational diabetes. It is designed to inspire and support healthy eating for individuals, families, communities, workplaces, and more!
Over the course of six 75-minute online lessons featuring cooking demos, nutrition lessons, and online discussions, participants will gain the knowledge, skills and
support to make and sustain significant, culturally relevant, plant-based dietary changes to prevent and, in many cases, even reverse diabetes. The goal of NFFLO is to share knowledge and skills to help people take the best care possible of themselves and their families, and to experience long, healthy lives.
NFFLO will meet on Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Mountain Time on July 20, 27 and August 3, 10, 17, and 24, 2021.

Ancestral Harvest: Food is Medicine on the San Felipe Pueblo
Session 4 is presented by the Director of Diabetes Education and Care at the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine. Dr. Caroline Trappe will be speaking on the benefits of eating regionally grown and harvested foods on the indigenous metabolism, as well as using food to reduce/prevent complications related to diabetes and associated chronic conditions like high blood pressure. This will be a LIVE event with a Q&A session following. Dr. Frank And Chef Walter will also be present to answer any questions for them as well.
Sessions 1-3 were provided by Native American Chef, Lois Ellen Frank, PhD (Kiowa/Sephardic), lecturer, photographer, Cookbook author and owner of Red Mesa Cuisine, LLC in Santa Fe, NM.
