Rationale

Star formation is a complex process, which involves magnetic field, gravity, and turbulence. However, the exact role of these components in star formation remains elusive. Dust polarization induced by grain alignment is widely used to study magnetic fields and probe dust properties. Once a star forms, evolves and dies (as supernova explosion), intense stellar radiation and stellar winds trigger radiative and mechanical feedback, which can fundamentally change the physical and chemical properties of the surrounding environment, including dust. The modified dust and gas properties in turn impact the stellar formation and feedback.

To train young researchers in Astrophysics and promote collaboration among Vietnamese researchers, the Vietnam Astrophysics Research NETwork (VARNET) was established in 2020. Our main research focuses on understanding the roles of magnetic fields and dust in star formation and stellar feedback.

The purposes of this first VARNET workshop are (1) to discuss our latest results and future plan, and (2) to discuss potential collaboration of VARNET with leading experts in the areas related to star formation and stellar feedback.

The workshop includes review talks by invited speakers and contributed talks by VARNET members, which cover from fundamental theory, observational techniques, simulations, and observations, on the wide range of scales from galaxies to star-forming regions, and protoplanetary disks.
