Seventh Magazine

Hello! And Welcome to SEVENTH, the music magazine by young people for young people.

I created this magazine as an outlet for people to begin their journey in music journalism or photography or for their writing to be published somewhere for the first time. I knew how difficult it was to begin finding experience as a current student journalist and I wanted to be able to have something for myself as well as being the person for other people to let them have their own creative workplace.

I made it clear that I had no intention of moulding anyone into a writer I wanted them to be, but instead for them to bring their own niche within the music industry they were interested in and write and create around that.

My name is Holly Carter. I am 19 and originally from Oxford, before moving to Manchester for university. I study Broadcast Journalism, and have always had a passion for the music and entertainment industry, and becoming a journalist within this sector.

Being from a small town outside of Oxford, there was not a lot of opportunities regarding journalism which meant it was difficult to build up a portfolio to take to university with me. Starting off in media is incredibly difficult and I wanted SEVENTH to be somewhere where people felt that they could openly write within their chosen sector of music.

Some fun facts about me is that I actually wanted to be a hairdresser growing up, until I did my work experience at a hairdressers and realised it was not the kind of work I wanted to get into.

I have always loved performing, I was a big musical theatre kid (and still am), but within Secondary School I took part in a few musicals and realised I loved being on stage. I then found the art of being on camera and making creative work.

What can you expect from SEVENTH?

You can expect a huge range of different pieces within the SEVENTH magazine, ranging from feature pieces on music itself, punk pieces, gig reviews and photography. As well as interviews with bands, producers, DJs, and even all your fangirl needs.

There is truly something for everyone within this magazine no matter what genre of music is your favourite. And, if it isn't a part of it, then let us know what you would like to see! Feedback is so important in making what we do even better than before and attention grabbing for readers.

I am so fortunate to have an incredible team of writers that have worked so hard to produce every issue of SEVENTH, and I wouldn’t be able to have created it without their determination and hard work.

How to get involved

At SEVENTH, we're always looking for new writers, photographers, and creatives to showcase their talent. Whether you're just starting out or already have experience, we'd love to hear from you.

Our aim has always been to create a space where people can build their portfolio, explore their creativity, and share the music they're passionate about. We don't expect you to fit into one writing style or cover a certain genre; we want to see your personality and perspective shine through in your work.
