Somewhere in northern Britannia, Ban arrives at the Fairy King's Forest in search of the Fountain of Youth. He quickly climbs up the large majestic tree, and ends up meeting a mysterious young girl whom he ignores initially. He decides to ask her who she is, only to discover that she was the Guardian Saint protecting the fountain. Swiftly, she swings her hand and the winds blow Ban off the tree. However, Ban survives the fall and persistently continues to climb up again. He repeatedly climbs up and gets blown off, until both of them grows extremely annoyed. In order to obtain the fountain, Ban equips himself with his Nunchaku, leading Elaine to believe that he was planning to kill and steal like all other humans. To her surprise, he quickly grabs the Fountain of Youth and begins drinking. But before he could even take a sip, Elaine manipulates the tree branches and immobilizes him by grabbing all of his limbs. She then persuades him that without the Fountain of Youth, the forest itself will die. Astonishingly, Ban replies straightforwardly, stating that he understands. When Elaine decides to read his heart, she discovers that he really had the intentions of giving up. She releases him and the two begin to get to know each other. Ban tells her that the reason for stealing the fountain is to hope for something good to happen in his life. In response, she replies saying that she already lived for over 700 years, protecting the cup in place of her brother, King, who abandoned her. Ban decides to show her his ale label collection and the two bonded over a span of 7 days. Suddenly, when Ban was away, she quietly whispers that she wished that he had come to steal her instead of the Fountain of Youth. She was startled to discover Ban behind her, who had heard what she said, and realized that they both have similar thoughts and feelings. Out of the blue, a mysterious monster from the Demon Clan appears, burning the forest with its Purgatory Fire. Ban immediately confronts the monster after telling Elaine to escape with the fountain, and successfully robs one of its hearts. Not realizing that it had more than one heart, he lets down his guard and as a result, both of them get severely injured by the monster. Both of them realize that the only way to survive was to drink the Fountain of Youth, which means that only one of them could live. The two of them wanted each other to drink the fountain, hoping for their survival. In desperation, Elaine seemingly drinks the liquid, only to kiss Ban and deliver it to him directly. Ban immediately recovers from the injuries after consuming the liquid, and quickly defeats the monster in rage. Before passing away, Elaine gives him the forest's last seed and he repeats, Someday, I'll definitely make you mine. Sadly, before he was able to finish the phrase, she was gone. Later on, somewhere within the Kingdom of Liones, Ban is judged and sentenced to death for his apparent sins of destroying the Fairy King's Forest, taking the Fountain of Youth and killing the Guardian Saint. As the captain of the guard asked Ban if he has any last words before execution, Ban told everyone present that he is no longer "Bandit Ban" and "Undead Ban" is now his name.

I am a sucker for stories that involve mythological creatures and gods. I find it even more appealing when they make them unique and different. The basic backstory of the Seven Deadly Sins was rather simple. They were accused of plotting to overthrow the kingdom. So it was rather predictable that they were in fact not the bad guys in this. Framed from the start, the princess has come to find them in order to band together to fight the Holy Knights.

King was the last of the group we met in the first half of the season. King was the sin of sloth and went by another name, Fairy King Harlequin. He left his sister alone to guard the fountain several hundred years ago when he went to look for his best friend. However, after learning of her death, he believed Ban was to blame and vowed to hunt him down. Though his wanted poster showed him as an older overweight man, his true appearance is similar to Meliodas. He looks like a young boy wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

As the group got together, they ran into several Holy Knights who tried everything to stop them from continuing to gather the sins back together. The rift between King and Ban was put to rest in the first half after learning of the truth cause of his sisters death. However, the group is finding it difficult to fight this new generation of knights. Turns out they are using demon blood to boost their magic ability.

There are a few plot points that stick out as troupes but for the most part the anime is fresh and fun. The twist on the classical mythological characters is a lot of fun to unravel. The writers did a good job of keeping the majority of the secrets to the sins back stories from being revealed too early. Though you could probably figure some of it out if you were paying close attention.

The Seven Deadly Sins is a grouping of vices repeatedly referenced within Christian teachings, although they are not mentioned in the Bible. Behaviors or habits are classified under this category if they directly give rise to other immoralities. According to the standard list, they are wrath, gluttony, envy, sloth, greed, lust, and pride, which are contrary to the seven heavenly virtues. These sins are often thought to be abuses or excesses of natural faculties or passions (for example, gluttony abuses the natural hunger for nourishment).

The cardinal sins are used in Season One of Slasher as the Executioner's modus operandi. He determines their suitability based on which sin he feels they've committed, then after identifying one (or in sloth's case, two) potential targets, the Executioner kills them via their described punishment. Whether that be dismembered alive for the sin of wrath, to be force fed rats, toads, and serpents for the sin of gluttony, to be drowned in freezing water for the sin of envy, to be thrown in a pit of snakes for the sin of sloth, to be boiled in a vat of expensive oil for the sin of greed, to be smothered by fire and brimstone for the sin of lust, or to be "broken by the wheel" for the sin of pride.

The Executioner had targeted seven people for this first sin, but ended up killing Verna McBride for her involvement in her husband's (Peter McBride) death. It's revealed in Digging Your Grave with Your Teeth, that when Verna was younger she had shot and killed Peter after finding out about his infidelity with Rachel Ingram. It's for this sin of wrath and anger that she was targeted and killed.

Gluttony is the act of over-prioritizing the act of hedonism (eg. over-indulgence of food, drink, wealth, status, power, etc.) In Christianity, it is considered a sin if the excessive desire for consumption causes it to be withheld from the needy.

Like Verna McBride, the Executioner had targeted a list of eight people before finally deciding on Justin Faysal both for his drug addiction, and involvement in the Vicars family accident. It's revealed in Like as Fire Eateth Up and Burneth Wood, that Justin had used underhanded tactics to buy a plot of land from a poor family. He had used one of his connections in the city council to rezone their land, with the Vicars unable to afford the tax hike, forcing them to sell their land. After leaving, the family ended up staying in an old home with no heating or electricity during the winter, using a propane gas heater to keep them warm. But after the family went to sleep, they all silently suffocated and died from the fumes and lack of oxygen. 152ee80cbc
