I've created my first setup project using Visual Studio 2010. I've noticed that when I build the setup project it generates an MSI installer file and a setup.exe executable. However, I seem to be able to just right click on the MSI file and choose install to install my application rather than running setup.exe.

Does the setup.exe file that is generated do anything other than just fire up the MSI file? When distributing my application can I just provide the MSI file rather than the MSI file and the setup.exe file?

Hi,

the current path of the setup.exe is D:\Users\Jrgen\Desktop\MED-100WIN-CD-420_5-0-4-0_Win64 and after changing the path to C:\Users\Juerg\Desktop\MED-100WIN-CD-420_5-0-4-0_Win64 the setup.exe is now working!

It was the special character tag_hash_109 in my User Folder that somehow messed the startup up; thank you very much for pointing that out - i would've never guessed it myself!

I have downloaded Creo 7 from school PTC program and I unzipped "MED-100WIN-CD-450_8-0-0-0_Win64.zip" archive. Then, following "PTC Creo 7.0 - Schools Edition - Quick Installation Guide", I disabled antivirus and firewall. Then right click on setup.exe --> run as administrator.

Nothing happens. I placed the unzipped installation package into a C:\PTC_install directory and launched C:\PTC_install\setup.exe, nothing still happened. I have a 64 bit computer and I am running windows 11

Windows 11 operating system is not supported. You can try changing setup.exe properties and set compatibility mode to Windows 10 (if this option is available).

When I try to run setup.exe to install the student edition of Creo 8.0 it asks me if it can make changes to my computer but then does nothing when I say yes. An application error did appear in Event Viewer, I pasted it below.

I was wondering if anyone has every version of setup.exe - all of the shareware, doom, doom2, ultimate doom and final doom versions? I know some can be found through downloading the various shareware versions but I can't find anything but version 1.7 for doom2. I'm guessing there was one before it that came with doom2 1.666 though, right?

For the past 2 months everytime I connect online, setup.exe loads in the background and proceeds to destroy my data usage allotment forcing me to work at 2x speeds for the rest of the billing cycle. Task Manager does not 'see' it and I have automatic synch turned off in my profile settings. I know it's an Adobe program because Windows 10 displays it in its built in App Usage Utility with a very clear Adobe icon logo.

I understand your suggestions. One point. If by "uninstall every cc app" you mean specific applications like Photoshop and Lightroom then I hope this thread remains open until August 6. Since setup.exe has shredded my data usage, I can't tie up my computer for the amount of time needed to install all the cc apps at 2x speed and must wait until then to regain 4g speed.

There are many apps called setup.exe, probably millions of them. Adobe will have a lot. So, are you able to tell which specific one it is? Task manager does see all apps if you tell it to. Possibly it reports a different name, so look for apps using a lot of network.

This will work on win10, but not any of my win7 x86/x64 machines, it just hangs on this command. I do see the app install on the machine, but setup.exe never ends/finishes so it doesnt move on to the next step. The logs just show it running the execute-process.

If I try to install the setup.exe with the iss normally from a cmd prompt, works just fine so I know the software works on all the versions of windows I am trying. Any idea what I can do to test it? Im on 3.6.9.

We're working on deploying our Laserfiche Client (currently 8.3.2) software through SCCM 2012. After the conference we decided to try using the setup.exe to deploy the software instead of the many MSIs which are included with the product.

As we've worked with the setup.exe we've noticed that the -noui switch expected the MSIs to be in either the Client or Support folder. As we've tried different ways to push out the software we've found that the setup.exe is not finding the Support folder and throwing an error to the user regardless of if we push out the Support Folder or have the MSIs in the Client folder.

Also, when deploying just the Client to a workstation, is it recommended to use the full source Laserfiche installers (servers, client, admin tools, etc.) and then just use the setup.exe to limit what is installed? I'm curious if we're making this harder on ourselves by trying to limit the install package to be just the Laserfiche client.

Running a simlary setup.exe file that was built in LV2010 SP1 on the win7 machine does not give this error. Have not confirmed that the build are identical but they are very similary and use the same source code/project/ and. applications but built in SP1

Thankfully setup.exe is safe to run as long as it comes from a trusted source. If you download a program from the internet, make sure that the website is reputable and that you trust the publisher before running setup.exe.

Running setup.exe is easy! First, locate the file located in the folder of the program you want to install. For example, if you want to install a new game, locate the setup.exe file in the installation files for the game.

When I click on the HP icon on my desktop, a box pops up entitled "user account central, Device setup.exe" which is confusing because my printer recognizes the printer and the print jobs go to the print que but won't print. Is this an indicaator that I have to reinstall the printer. Please advise.

Thanks for any insight. I am in the process of setting up our PROD and test environments for my company. Every so often I need to restore one of the environments from backup. For that I need to use the repository snapshot manager and the QLIKSense setup .exe. The problem is that some one on my team keeps removing the setup exe. So I need to download it again. The real problem is that I can never find the download for QLIK sense server on the QLIK site. I keep going to the download page and filling out the questionaire and it keeps giving me Qlik_Sense_Desktop_setup.exe. IN particular I am looking for 3.2

After double-clicking on the setup file, the Windows 7 loading wheel pops up, but no prompts/windows pop up. A setup.exe entry does show up in Task Manager, though. Nothing shows up in the Event Logs.

Kill the setup.exe process in the task manager and then try rerunning it. Sometimes you get a "zombie"* process that's launched but for whatever reason bugs out and doesn't load correctly, preventing a new one from starting, and doesn't go away by itself.

Going to Task Manager-->processes-->Go to Details-->Select the non working application, right clicking and going to Analyze Wait Chain worked. It was waiting for WinRAR.exe for some reason. To get around this, I selected winrar.exe and "disabled" it and the setup.exe program opened no problem.

WaitChain means the setup.exe is waiting to launch soon after another process is finished. So, You can start killing processes from TaskManager one by one to see which one is blocking the setup.exe. You may start with Skype or some other Microsoft Processes.

I have downloaded the Windows server 2012r2 iso file from microsoft & created a bootable flashdrive but there is no "setup.exe" file to allow me to launch the upgrade install. I even downloaded the evaluation iso & same thing. Am I missing something?

Now my problem for Windows 10 64-bit is whenever I insert my CD and I run the AUTORUN.EXE it seem to work fine but when I press install so it gets ready to open setup.exe nothing happens then after like 5 minutes straight. I tried running as windows 95, it seem to get me something say: That my oleaut32.dll is old and needs to be updated (when I do have the latest version.), then it says it want to reboot my PC to install VBRUN60. But still not luck after I do everything I can and this.

So first of all I followed the instruction. I downloaded the RA2 from xwis and seem to work fine. But should I also download Yuri's Revenge from there too? I mean since the CD setup.exe works should I or no.

Which project type are you using? Basic MSI? InstallScript? Or InstallScript MSI? The project type should be indicated in square brackets on the InstallShield title bar when your affected project is open: []

By manually, do you mean right-clicking the already built setup.exe and manually renaming the file itself that way with the Rename option? Or does manually include specifying a project setting that causes the built setup.exe to have the specified name automatically? Or both?

Are you looking for a way to programmatically set the setup.exe file name in the project settings by programmatically updating the project file then building the project via an automation script?
