The Dynamixel AX-12A motors have a very specific hole pattern. After measuring the diameter and the placement of the holes, a design was created in SolidWorks. Then, the shape was exported to be laser cut on the laser cutter in Bray's machine shop. The arms were cut out of scrap 1/8" acrylic that another person used and engraved their design into. However, the laser did not cut all the way through, which allowed us to have some interesting shapes in our custom laser cut arms. The length of these arms were determine to maximize the reach of the arm. Since the motor brackets limited some of the motion of the arm, the laser cut arms were designed to be long enough to reach all the parts of our game board.
