"The competition serves as an opportunity for students to compete and showcase their accomplishments. Students learn to use solar energy for transportation purposes and get hands-on experience with sustainable energy, energy management, and the importance of efficiency and good design." - Solar Splash Official Website
I was the Vice President of the University of Rochester Solar Splash team (URSS) in 2018-2019. Below images are all from the 2017 competition.
I used my prior robotics experience to help with the choice of motor and batteries for both our sprint and endurance drive trains, as well as assisting with many other electrical subsystems on the boat. As a Mechanical Engineering major, all the knowledge I have about power electronics is self-taught, but I am skilled with machining techniques as well. I also helped fabricate parts for the drive-train using both a manual milling machine and lathe, and designed a few of the part models in CAD for the drive-train and subsystem assemblies.
