Structure & Systems - our how
Network
The ICE network in Thailand is led by a steering committee ensuring the guidance, continuity, consistency, shared-workload, sustainability, and stay true to the core and ethos of why ServICE is founded, and being up-to-date with our learning of meaningful, authentic and impactful Service Learning.
The Steering committee is consisted of committed educators and youths from inter-schools community. Each school on the steering committee has dedicated student leaders and educators to ensure a distributed and shared voice with perspectives. This committee will review and invite newer members to join in on a yearly basis.
Annual Conference (Core Principles)
Conference is student-driven and team-led
Aim at the higher order of youth leadership - youth-initiated, shared-decision making with adults (Hart, 1992)
Participation and engagement must be supported by school as an official school trip, this ensures safeguarding, aligns with ethos of ICE as inter-schools community, and supports team-led approach of higher order of youth leadership
Suggested: provide student facilitation trainings towards the many roles of hosting the conference
Conference is collaborative
Youths and adults from steering committee will be supporting the hosting school towards the design and host of the conference (e.g. templates, shared-folder, risk assessments, resources)
The host school makes final decisions on the conference - supported by the steering committee (TBC - needs revisit)
Conference hosting is rotational
Schools interested in hosting should voice their intentions during the days of conference
Host school will be decided and announced on the last day of 3-day conference
Host school will be mindful of collaborative school schedules and avoid major clashes to the best they can (but final decision = what works for the hosting school)
Hosting school should work closely with the steering committee to ensure consistency, sustainability, communication and more
Conference hosting = sustainable (social and environmental)
Theme: framed/organized with Sustainable Development Goals
Zero plastic policy
Minimal waste policy
Collective donation drive to support selected community partners/ NGO/ organization of the choice from hosting school
T-shirt swap for conference shirt
If trips are involved - consider carbon footprint
Conference hosting = not-for-profit
All proceeds (if any) should go right back into meaningful service in action
No refunds after registration deadline
Conference fee = 2,300 THB/student
Conference programme = collaborative
Delegates from each school - diversity of age group, passion driven, and commitment (no rotational attendance from students - for example, only come for one day). Except for booth vendors that are only coming in for booths (under the approval of the respective school supervisor) and/or special sessions as guests/ vo
Student leaders who are already involved in service: lead How-To’s, host booths, lead keynote speech, and more
Rising service student leaders: ones interested in learning more
All schools have roles at the event
This means taking an active role in hosting and/or leading an important component to the conference
If it is a school’s first year in the conference or newer to Service-Learning, there is a free pass, and afterwards the school must contribute in some form/ nature towards the learning of the collective
Conference delegates/ participants = inclusive & committed
Ages 10+
Decision-making up to respective schools - as we might have a young changemaker who is spearheading many various projects and ready to inspire, connect and empower!
*age should not be a limitation, instead, engagement and maturity level in service
Not hour-counting or fulfilling CAS requirements focused - making meaningful connections schools offer, and not physically being here to check boxes
