Musical Theater Terminology!
We understand not everyone might understand our theater lingo! Below is some terms that we might use in class or on the website! :)
Blocking - Staging the show and showing the kiddos where to stand or do during each scene
Choreography - The dance moves!
Off Book - Fully memorized! Not just knowing all lines, but all dance moves and where to go.
Full Show Run - Pretending we are performing the show for real! No stops!
How to memorize lines!
Sometimes memorizing lines can be super tricky when you are new to musical theater! Here are some helpful hints to assist you in your practicing at home!
Break it Down!
Learn little by little! Too much at a time can be super overwhelming!
Highlight your lines!
It will pop off the page and make it easy to see where your next line is!
Work with a partner!
Learning your single lines are great, but it's imperative in a large cast to make sure that you memorize the line before and after! If you memorize just the line, but not when it comes- no good!
Work before bedtime!
Studying before bed is proved to be an effective way of learning your lines. Studies have shown that recall is much better if the learning was done before going to sleep. Make sure your child reviews the lines again in the morning, though.
