About Dunaev

Artist

I am a Chicago based Russian-American artist working in mixed media. I spent my childhood in the North West of Russia where I was able to hike and jog through forest trails. While hiking I saw beautiful nature that informed my artistic practice. Today, I translate those natural motifs to my art.

My artistic style is both futuristic and surrealistic. Inspired by Salvador Dali, a mixed media artist, I present natural and architectural shapes in a dream-like way. I use simple manipulations to receive the final object. I am fascinated by symmetrical design, repetitiveness, and curvature of natural elements. I create patterns based on shapes of leaves, branches, roots, and flowers. I use scaling stretching, tiling, mirroring, twisting, rotating, copying, and bending computational commands the same as nature does. To produce my art, I combine computational design software and 3d printers with sustainable, recycled materials. For me, it is critical to protect the environment while producing art.
