I am a condensed matter theorist using models and computational methods to describe effects of interactions in real materials. Interactions of many particles often result in complex orders and emergent behaviour, very different from the behaviour of isolated particles. My research is mainly focused on frustrated magnets and multiferroics, although I worked on a broad range of topics from dynamics in quantum Hall ferromagnets to excitonic optical absorption of semiconductors in high magnetic fields. I did my PhD with Maxim Mostovoy (Groningen) and my postdoc with David Vanderbilt and Karin Rabe, working in close collaboration with Sang-Wook Cheong (Rutgers). In 2015 I have joined the faculty of the Italian Institute of Technology in Genova, Italy as a leader of the Quantum Materials Theory group.
