Arts integration is an approach to teaching and learning through which skills are enforced and monitored in and through engagement in creative processes that connect the arts to other subject areas. This consultation will help you integrate arts practices into healthcare settings to promote psychosocial well-being, such as social engagement, skill-building, and increasing self-esteem through self-expression. You will learn how to select activities to match cognitive ability and incorporate various art forms into actions that can continue life roles, pair with residents' hobbies, connect with communities, or expand their interests. In addition, you will learn how to develop unique arts-based programs and activities that promote physical, mental, and social well-being and consider the personal preferences of all —even those who usually don't participate in arts-based programming. Lastly, you will learn to analyze art and compare works of an artist for indications of changes in cognition over time and adapt programs accordingly.

A window into the world of dementia through evidence-based dementia simulation training. The Tour uses patented sensory tools and instruction based on ground-breaking evidence-based research conducted by P.K. Beville, M.S., a specialist in geriatrics and the founder of Second Wind Dreams® to help participants build a greater understanding of dementia. During a Virtual Dementia Tour, we guide participants outfitted with sensory-altering tools to complete everyday tasks and exercises. The Tour enables caregivers, activities professionals, dieticians, and social workers to briefly experience a fraction of the physical and mental challenges those with dementia face and use the experience to provide better person-centered care. Register now to improve the lives of those with this disease and their caregivers.
The Dementia Aware Competency Evaluation (DACE) measures caregivers' ability to provide person-centered care with competency, sensitivity, empathy, dignity, and respect for those with cognitive impairments. The methodology is based on 30 years of research and can be used to benchmark departmental performance over time. It is recommended that the DACE is conducted before and after a dementia training program, such as the Virtual Dementia Tour®, to assess the success of the training. This method of learning and assessment based on best practices for positive outcomes allows for real-world feedback and instruction based on the caregiver's specific needs.
