Bylaws
PTA bylaws are important because they help a PTA run smoothly and protect the organization's integrity:
Establish purpose and mission: Bylaws define the PTA's purpose and mission.
Define roles and responsibilities: Bylaws outline the rights and responsibilities of members, officers, and committees.
Provide a structure: Bylaws establish the structure of the PTA, including its committee structure.
Provide a guide for decision-making: Bylaws can help keep emotion out of decision-making and protect the group from personal priorities.
Resolve disputes: Bylaws are the final word in any dispute and cannot be suspended.
Local PTA bylaws should be adopted and amended by a vote of members at a general meeting.
