In Sepaktakraw each team has 3 players the server, striker, and feeder. The server stands in the serving circle and has to kick the ball over the net, they need to have a powerful and accurate serve. The striker is positioned on the left side of the court, they need to be agile and have strong kicking skills to do spike and smash kicks. Finally, the feeder is positioned on the right side of the court and is responsible for setting up the ball for the striker, they need good ball control and good accuracy to set the ball.
Sepaktakraw is played on a court similar to a badminton court, measuring 13.4 meters in length and 6.1 meters in width. The court needs markings for the boundaries and center line. The net needs to be 1.55 meters high men and 1.45 meters high for women, it needs to be tightly secured to avoid sagging. The ball uses synthetic materials for durability, its circumference should be 42-44 cm for men and 43-45 cm for women, should weigh around 170-180 grams for men and 150-160 grams for women. You should have light-weight, breathable shoes with non-marking soles for indoor courts. You need knee pads, ankle braces, and shin guards.
In Sepaktakraw the basic rules are that each team has 3 players, the serve must cross the net and land within the opponent’s service area, matches are three sets, each set won by scoring 21 points, if score is tied at 20 then first team to get a 2 point lead wins. Players can’t touch the net during play, only your feet, head, knees, and chest can touch the ball. Consecutive touches by the same player are not allowed. Line judges help determine if the ball landed in or out of bounds. Scorers keep track of points and fouls.
In Sepak takraw, players need to be agile and flexible to perform moves like spikes, you also need precision, power, and control. You need excellent ball control for setting up plays and maintaining rallies. Players need good team chemistry to execute complex plays and maintain defensive formations. They also need high levels of stamina and endurance. Some strategies are sending a powerful and accurate serve, to put opponents on defense quickly. Your position to allow them to cover more ground. Constant communication to make offensive plays work, and defensively to get stops. Using defensive techniques like blocking and anticipation to prepare for opponents to spike the ball. Ability to adapt to whatever the opposing team throws at you throughout the game.
