Welcome to the SSAG Lab (Spatial optimization, Spatial Analytics, and Geographic information science)!
As an Assistant Professor at the School of Digital Humanities and Computational Social Sciences at KAIST (appointed in 2025) and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, I investigate societal and environmental impacts through spatial analysis. My research integrates geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial optimization methodologies to address challenges in urban dynamics, demographic transitions, and human-environment interactions.
My work develops spatial analytics frameworks to decode complex social phenomena. Core themes include urban dynamics, where GIS-based approaches map inequities in infrastructure access through coverage modeling. A second focus lies in location analytics, which identifies non-dominated solutions for multi-objective spatial optimization problems within continuous space, particularly in resource allocation and service accessibility. Finally, emerging applications extend spatial paradigms to novel domains, such as optimizing outfielder positioning in sports analytics and evaluating welfare facility accessibility in rural regions.
