My teaching philosophy is grounded in a commitment to working for and with students to gain knowledge and skills and fostering vibrant, inclusive, and resilient student-centered classrooms that encourage the sharing of thoughts and ideas. In my teaching, I give serious consideration to two main factors - selecting class readings and viewing materials and structuring course themes to show the tension between structure vs. agency, domination vs. subversion, and mainstream vs. alternatives - in order to reduce inequality in the classroom and support the learning experiences of first-generation and other underrepresented students including multiracial, multilingual immigrant, and international students at the university.
For the past eight years, as an instructor, I have had a wealth of experience teaching introductory, advanced-level, and graduate courses within and beyond the field of Communication Studies. Through these teaching experiences, I have honed my skills in creating assignments, selecting readings based on class levels and size, and managing in and outside classroom communication with diverse teaching modalities such as face-to-face, hybrid, and entirely online.
