FAQ
FAQ
Do students need experience playing tennis before joining the team?
No, Minot North does not require previous experience. We welcome and encourage players of all ability levels to join our team, and just ask that everyone show up with a positive attitude and give their best effort in practices and matches.
How do I choose the correct size racket for my student?
For a vast majority of students grades 6-8, they are ready for the standard adult sized racket (27 inches). This is definitely an instance of 'you get what you pay for,' but if your student is just starting out, there is no need to buy a $200 racket.
Is there a minimum amount of matches that each student will play?
This is very much numbers dependent - if we have 12 total boys on the team, then everyone will get a good deal of matches. If we have a larger team than others in the state, it may be hard to find enough matches to go around. We will do what we can to make sure each student gets at least 1 match against an outside opponent.
For out of town trips, how do hotels work?
The school will book all hotel rooms for the team as a whole. It is standard policy for students to share beds and have four people per room. Because of this, the cost passed on to students is currently $22. This is payable to the front office of your school before the trip begins.
Should we purchase shoes designed specifically for use on a tennis court?
This is not required, but it is highly recommended. Court shoes from major brands such as Wilson, Adidas, Nike, and others take into account the side to side motion and sudden stops common in tennis, and add extra support in places not found in traditional sneakers, as well as additional grip on the bottoms. We do, however, require each athlete to have a pair of athletic shoes at all times, or they will not be allowed to participate.
