I believe educators should create a community of learners in the classroom. Learning is a group effort and I aim to provide an inclusive, welcoming, and student-centered learning environment. My responsibility as a teacher is to provide a safe space that fosters collaborative learning and empowerment to my students. I want my students to leave my class not only learning another language, but that they were respected, cared for, and safe.
My goal for the students is to develop proficiency in the language, but to also gain an appreciation for the history, culture, and values that make up the language. I define proficiency as when students can communicate effectively and spontaneously while using the second language. To fulfill these goals, I will incorporate communicative and real-world based learning strategies and lessons. This includes maximum exposure to the second language and the use of comprehensible input. I expect all students to be respectful and courteous to others and myself. Learning a language is challenging and having support without the fear of judgement brings out confidence in the students.
My goals for parent relationships is to be as active and cooperative as possible. I am so grateful to be able to teach your children about the language I love so much and I want you to be involved. I will keep my site updated with the latest information about the students and the school. I am always open to clarify any questions you may have in regards to your child's education and how you can be involved too. I will reach out to celebrate and relay your child's success and progress in my classroom. I am looking forward to meeting all you and the students.
I have been studying Spanish for 6 years and have gained a multitude of knowledge throughout my college years. I use proactive classroom management strategies such as building student relationships, setting clear expectations, consistency, and modeling the behavior I expect from the students. My experience in learning Spanish was a long and challenging road. I am not a native speaker, but have continued to be disciplined and consistent in my own learning to be where I am today. I understand the hardships monolingual students may face and I am here to use my first-hand experience to help them foster language learning. I have taken rigorous Spanish courses such as translation, hispanic linguistics, and foreign language methodology. These courses give me a unique advantage because they are specific training that is not easily available to all foreign language teachers. All of these classes have prepared me for my next step into teaching and sharing my love, experience, and knowledge of the language with all of you!
