Senior Smiles began with a simple idea: making sure older adults in nursing homes have people who spend time with them and visit them.
We wanted to create opportunities for students to visit senior communities, play games, have conversations, share some laughter, and build meaningful connections with residents.
As we developed the idea, we realized we could add another important piece to those visits: oral health education. With a focus on dentistry and geriatric oral health, Senior Smiles grew into a program that combines social connection with engaging, accessible oral health activities.
Today, our goal is to make every visit something residents can look forward to- not just an educational activity, but an opportunity to connect, participate, laugh, and smile.
Making oral health information easy to understand and engaging.
Creating genuine opportunities for students and older adults to spend time together.
Bringing laughter, games, conversation, and positive experiences into senior communities.
We believe people learn best when they feel comfortable, included, and engaged. That's why our visits use interactive activities rather than traditional lectures.
From Oral Health Bingo to Myth or Fact and Dental Jeopardy, our programs encourage participation while creating opportunities for conversation and connection.
Senior Smiles works with senior living communities and nursing homes to create activities that match residents' interests and needs.
We also value guidance from dental professionals and faculty as we develop our educational materials.
