Get dressed each day. Yes, you could go through your school day in your pajamas, but you will likely do a lot better if you get dressed and treat this just like a regular school day.
Make a schedule. As a virtual learner, you have more flexibility, but you still need a schedule.
For each online class you have, you should spend approximately 1-2 hours each day on that class.
Take breaks where you actually move around; going outside for few minutes is a good idea
Have a dedicated space for doing your work. It should be clear of anything that might be a distraction.
Stay caught up. Getting behind is like chasing a moving vehicle. You're trying to catch up, and the class is still moving on.
Give yourself rewards--if you are tempted to watch TV, play on your phone, or play video games. use it as a reward--when I get through two class periods, I will reward myself with 15 minutes of playtime or TV time.
Most importantly---Communicate with teachers; check in often; ask for help. As soon as you start to feel overwhelmed or confused, reach out to your teacher or to me. We are here to help you, and we want you to succeed!
If you or your parent want to have a conference, let me know. I can schedule one with your teachers. We can work out an in person version (with plenty of social distancing) or we can do it on Zoom.
If you need help with how to set up your day or how to navigate Edgunuity, I am providing a resource here that I think will help you. Mrs. Tyus did a Zoom meeting and provided a power point that I think would be helpful for all virtual learners. Most of it can apply to all learners. Just ignore the parts that are specifically for her English class.
