About Gear Guard:

The main way musicians make money nowadays is playing live shows and touring. A major danger bands face while on tour is the possibility of equipment getting lost or stolen. If something is stolen, it is very difficult to get it back. Based on a self-reporting questionnaire distributed to 93 New Jersey musicians, 64% had equipment lost/stolen on tour, and only 6% got it back.

Touring musicians and managers are the most vulnerable to equipment loss or theft because they are constantly on the road and have a lot of gear to keep tabs on. However, anyone that owns an instrument or musical equipment may face the same problem.

This problem inspired Gear Guard, a tracking device which allows the user to continuously keep track of their belongings. Gear Guard uses Bluetooth and GPS technology, in conjunction with an iOS application to keep track of their gear.

This product would impact the mindset of the user, giving artists more time to focus on their music and performing rather than worrying about the safety of their gear. It will also allow concerts to feel more safe since the expensive equipment will be protected by Gear Guard.
