Subject name: Reinstate SPHR’s original instagram account
Dear Concordia,
I am writing to you as a student concerned with the misinformation and lies that you have spread en masse to the student body in response to our demand that you withdraw your official complaints towards SPHR Concordia’s Instagram account.
First of all, you stated that SPHR Concordia has not contacted your administration, which has been proven untrue, as they contacted you on the 30th of January, and again on the 5th and 9th of February. The evidence of this attempt to communicate is proven in the email receipts that they have generously provided in response to your false allegations as a continuation of their efforts to maintain transparency and honesty.
You also stated that SPHR Concordia is not a student association, and is therefore in violation of the trademark of Concordia. This is also untrue, as it has existed and been active since 1999, and no act, or notice, of revocation of their status has been delivered or acted upon by the administration of Concordia University.
Insisting that SPHR Concordia is not a student organization given the absence of formal revocation goes against the policies of the University in reference to the Quebec Companies Act (C-38, pt. III), as well as the institutional rights and obligations of students under the Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms wherein students are included in the definition of being “...the possessor[s] of the fundamental freedoms, including freedom of conscience, freedom of opinion, freedom of expression, freedom of peaceful assembly and freedom of association”.
Additionally, your claims that SPHR Concordia is not being censored, as they may open a new Instagram account, is spurious and facetious considering the subsequent silencing and censoring of their back-up account. There is a fundamental flaw in the logic of your response, as your actions have directly removed their access to a platform in which their voice (which represents thousands of concerned students, faculty and alumni) and message could reach thousands of concerned students, faculty, and alumni, especially concerning the administration’s persistence in complicitly profiting off of the economy of the current genocide. Simply replacing the account with a new one is not a feasible option, considering the loss in followers, and your persistent censure of their back-up account. Either you are unaware of how social media functions, or you made this point in bad faith and we demand that you clarify which stance is your official position.
In conclusion, we reject your attempts to aggressively reframe the narrative, and we refuse to allow you to spread misinformation and lies concerning the very transparent and honest actions of a student organization that has existed for over two decades [through and] despite the constant and repressive censorship and suppression enacted against them by the University's administration.
We demand that you negotiate and communicate with any and all student organisations in good faith, refrain from participating in spreading misinformation, and to cease and desist from continuing to censor and suppress your student’s voices!
Sincerely,
In solidarity with SPHR Concordia,
Students with Conscience
