As humans, we tend to forget our passwords. Signing into a user account with multi-factor authentication is grilling because you cannot sign in unless you prove your identity. And how do you verify your identity? With passwords and login details, right?
But you can only login into your account if you are the owner of the account, and multi-factor authentication takes care of that. Suppose you are logged out of your account or want to opt for the multi-factor authentication; follow through because we’ll be sharing everything about Xero multi-factor authentication and how to troubleshoot it. Without further ado, let’s get started.
Usually, multi-level authentication requires a handheld device. If you’ve ever tried logging into your Google account from an unfamiliar device, you’ll get the two-factor authentication on your smartphone. However, since we don’t have a smartphone with us, we can use Authy or WinAuth(for Windows) to set up multi-factor authentication for Xero.
Follow the steps given below to set up multi-factor authentication without a smartphone.
● From your desktop browser, login into your Xero account and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
● Now, click on “Set up multi-factor authentication.”
● On the “Choose an authentication app” window, scroll down and select “Set up a desktop application.”
● Now, go to authy.com, and download the app on your Windows computer.
● Create your Authy account, and go back to the authentication window.
● Finally, copy the Setup key under the setup app panel, and paste it into your Authey account to complete the process.
After syncing your Authy and Xero accounts, you can still face many errors and authentication problems. Sometimes these errors are caused by fluctuation in the network connection or heavy load on the web servers. If you are redirected to the login page while logging in, you can follow these steps to fix the issue.
● Restart your network router, or restart your PC, and try to login again.
● If that doesn’t fix the issue, go to Xero’s System Status page to see if there is any maintenance work on the servers.
● Trying logging in again after maintenance work is completed.
Xero offers a comprehensive security system for all Xero users. If you’ve lost your device or uninstall the app, you can still login into your account using a backup method. To do that, simply try logging into your account again. When you see the prompt for push notification, click on Use a backup method instead, and use your registered email address or answer your security questions to sign in.
Sometimes, you won’t receive the push notification on Xero Verify. But there is no need to panic, as there are numerous ways you can enable push notifications to sign in to your account. These methods are;
● Check if your device is connected to the internet or not.
● Turn on notification for the app inside Settings>Notification menu.
● If you still cannot see the push notification, click on Use a backup method instead and login into your account using your email address or answer your security questions.
This error occurs when you have a poor internet connection, or you’ve used the push notification method multiple times. It can also happen when you accidentally tap “No” on the push notification. To fix this error, try logging in after some time and tap “Yes” on the new push notification.
The authentication code not working occurs when you type in the wrong code on the multi-factor authentication page. Additionally, you can get this error when you type the previous authentication code into the login window. Usually, apps create new codes every 30 seconds. So make sure you try again only after 30 seconds. Or try to login again after a few minutes.
Xero allows you to login for up to five attempts. If you enter the wrong password after the fifth attempt, Xero will lock you out of your account. To fix this issue, try logging in again after 15 minutes or use push notification. If you still can’t log in to your account, try to reset your password using Xero Central.
These were the most common errors you can face while using multi-factor authentication. Now it is worth noting that multi-factor authentication protects your account with two layers of security. Even if you are getting an error while using it, multi-factor authentication is still an essential part of online security. Xero takes care of its customers, and with top-level security protocols, you can rest assured that only you can access your account and nobody else.
