August 3-7, 2020 - Getting on top of it
Baby Yoda wanted to demonstrate the concept that we all feel. There are so many changes and you may feel like you are in the grill of all the information inundating you.
Sometimes we can not get away from everything attacking us, but we can take a few moments or hours to breath and get on top of all that is attacking us rather than getting run over by it.
Acknowledge that it is hard, seek help when necessary and take the steps needed to keep from getting ran over.
August 1-2, 2020 - Prepare Yourself
Self Care includes preparation during the times of calmness. For us, we know that August is a crazy month. In preparation, I moved my trailer to the Alturas area for the month of August in order to be closer to work. We then spent Sunday setting up the trailer and making it home. This preparation takes daily obligations off of our plate to create room for the other pieces that are headed our way. Preparation can include food prep, choosing our outfits for the week, etc.
What can you do today, to make tomorrow better?
July 26 - 31, 2020 - Take a hike
We are back at work and Baby Yoda keeps reminding me to take a hike. In this time of masks, staying inside, and fires, it's important to get outside (where the air is clear), remove the mask and just be. Leave behind the emails, the documents, and social media and grab your walking stick.
June 29, 2020 - Heading Home
Baby Yoda left a painted rock for the next guest at site B42 to enjoy as we packed the camper and headed home.
Upon returning, it was time for a nap and a reminder that no matter how much fun time away is.... there truly is no place like home.
June 28, 2020 - Pay attention & Learn from others
Baby Yoda went for a last hike down to the lake today, and he noticed that someone had created a rock stacking sculpture. There were no people around so he has no idea how long it has stood there, but it was left as evidence of someone creating and leaving it behind for others to enjoy.
After seeing this incredible feat, he gathered his own rocks and took them back to the campsite to try it out for himself.
Stacking rocks is about balance and concentration. When you are stacking rocks, you may fail many times but each time only teaches you how not to do it next time. With the concentration, all of the other things that worried you disappear for a time as you think about nothing else but stacking the next rock.
Balance and focus are skills we need for life and help us cope. Take some time to stack some rocks and learn some lessons of your own along the way.
"Those little stacks of rocks are called cairns. ... A cairn is a human-made pile (or stack) of stones. The word cairn comes from the Scottish Gaelic: càrn[ˈkʰaːrˠn̪ˠ] (plural càirn[ˈkʰaːrˠɲ]). Cairns have been and are used for a broad variety of purposes, from prehistoric times to the present." ~ Wikipedia
June 27, 2020 - Meet the locals
Baby Yoda spent today meeting the locals in Prospect, Oregon and checking out Becky's Pies.
Thanks to the locals, we found an incredible waterfall and some delicious pie.
Wherever you are take the time to talk to others. We tell kids to not talk to strangers, but as adults sharing a smile, saying hello, or striking up a short conversation can make someone else's day and our own. Remember we are relational beings and many times we need to be the one to reach out with kindness towards others.
June 26, 2020 - Quiet Time
Baby Yoda spent today hanging out with friends at Joseph H. Stewart Oregon State Park.
He tried something that he has never tried before... he painted rocks. Trying a new artistic skill stimulates our brain, and when our focus is on a new fun task everything just melts away in that moment.
Baby Yoda also went on a hike by the lake and took pictures of beautiful scenery. When hiking and being in nature, take your time and enjoy. We rush so much in our world that sometimes we need to just stop and take time.
June 25, 2020 - Adventure Time
Baby Yoda checked out the area surrounding the Joseph H. Stewart Oregon State Park.
Baby Yoda is learning that you do not have to go far from home in order to relax or feel away from it all.
Going where there is no internet or turning off the internet for a period of time may take adjustment, but helps to separate work and home live when it's time to shut our work-brain off.
Time at the lake just enjoying the sunshine.
At the Fish Hatchery Baby Yoda was talking to the fish who kept jumping up to meet the young Jedi.

June 24, 2020 - On the go
Today Baby Yoda went for a drive to the campsite where he will stay for a few days.
Growing up, a family adventure meant hopping in the car and driving somewhere in the mountains. Even today, a stressed-filled day is calmed by taking a drive.
Is there a childhood memory of a fun way you de-stressed as a family? If so, try it again or pass it on to your family.

Baby Yoda... Excited
Tonight Baby Yoda is making sure that everything is packed for tomorrow's adventure. He's excited about tomorrow, but he also climbed in with all of the stuff, because he was worried about being left behind.
We all have emotions. It's part of being human and it's important to feel those emotions and not stuff them away, but we also have to make sure we are not controlled by our emotions.
"Emotion is a great servant, but a terrible master." ~Mark Batterson

Baby Yoda... Prioritizing
Self care is not always about the fun stuff. Many times we have to prioritize the things we need to do and just jump in and get them done so we can enjoy the things that we want to do. When we do not take the time to prioritize the "have to's" we spend our fun time stressing about what needs to get done. So, today we took care of business.

Baby Yoda... Resting
After a fun but busy weekend, it was time to rest. Even as adults it's important to take the time to listen to our bodies and when needed... take a nap. After all, Baby Yoda is 50 years old.
"Wow... Look at all the big equipment. Run it I can."
His imagination ran away as he thought he was a train conductor.

Baby Yoda... Exploring
Today was a busy morning for Baby Yoda. Hiking in nature, helping me hide a painted rock for other's enjoyment, and exploring the logging museum Baby Yoda was busy and as you can see more than a little mischievous...
I've lived here for 20 years and haven't explored this place so close to home. This summer take the time to explore... your own backyard.
I'm not sure if he was busy looking inside or staring at his reflection in the window.
Baby Yoda even made a new friend and asked if he could go fishing.
"Fix I can, live in it I will."
Baby Yoda, that bolt isn't a toy.
"MMM... snack time it is, yummy they are."
And this time.... SUCCESS

Baby Yoda... Trying New Things
Baby Yoda tried making his own fire starters using items from the trailer. Today he used his imagination to try something new without worrying about failure. It didn't turn out exactly as he expected, but he learned some new principles. Expanding our minds to use our imagination and previous knowledge without worry is a great way to enjoy childlike experiences that help us grow.
Preparing for 1st trial.

Baby Yoda... Totally at home
Baby Yoda checked into his new campsite today. He feels totally at home and relaxed in nature. Tomorrow he will be checking out the sights, but he knows that taking the time to simply enjoy nature is many times the best remedy for a stress-filled life.

Baby Yoda... Easily Distracted
On his way out to investigate the trailer for tomorrow's trip, Baby Yoda got distracted checking out the concrete forms put in the front yard today. A busy day sometimes means needing to take a moment to take in the sights and appreciate the day's work.

Meet Baby Yoda
This summer you can follow the misadventures of Baby Yoda as I practice self care. There will be new lessons to learn and fun pictures along the way.
