Curriculum & Training for Educators
Overview
In these socio-emotional learning (SEL) professional development courses, educators will teach students to increase their emotional intelligence and emotional quotient through self-management, self-awareness, social-awareness, relationship and interpersonal skills, and responsible decision-making. The classes are created to be an addition for any classroom teacher to add to their curriculum. The goal of these classes is to give teachers small, manageable points and slides that they can use to teach their students no matter what subject they teach. It is my hope that teachers of all subjects can fit SEL easily into their curriculum with these modules.
Introduction To Teachers
Gun violence. Poverty. State testing. The Covid-19 pandemic. The fight for basic human rights. Social media. War. The pressure to perform perfectly. Hunger. Abuse. Domestic violence. These are just a handful of the issues that plague today’s students day in and day out. Teachers and students are facing these events head-on every day, and the stress and anxiety that ensues can be crippling. Because of this, the need for better mental health, wellness, and socio-emotional support in the classroom is becoming exceedingly more important.
It is my hope that these classes and materials can present SEL curriculum in an easy, tangible, and enjoyable way for both teachers and students. With these small modules and courses, teachers of all subjects and disciplines can incorporate SEL into their classrooms without interrupting the planned curriculum and standards. Teachers can teach each module at once or break them into smaller sections throughout the school year. This class will expand their emotional quotient by exploring emotional intelligence and SEL disciplines such as self-management, self-awareness, social-awareness, relationship and interpersonal skills, and responsible decision-making that teachers of all subjects can incorporate into their classrooms.
