The French Immersion Summer Camp was borne out of a history of collaboration and student exchange programs with Sainte Famille de l’Enfant Jesus, where French students were hosted in Ghana in an effort to improve their English language. However, there was no companion program that offered Ghanaian students interested in improving their French language the opportunity to also stay in Cote d’Ivoire for a brief period. After various efforts and communications with stakeholders, a reconnaissance visit was carried out in 2022, in the lead-up to the summer camp in August 2024. 

That was the culmination of a dream, but the underpinning of it was the aim of enhancing students’ proficiency in French through immersive language experiences and promoting cross-cultural understanding. Through fun, interactive activities and day-to-day interactions, the summer camp would build the confidence of the students, their teamwork skills, and the love for learning a different language. Though the program currently is focused on French language learning, the hope is that this will be expanded in the future to include other languages and countries.
