The laboratory of Dr. Alex Travis within the Baker Institute for Animal Health at Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine, is seeking a Research Associate candidate with experience in biochemistry and cell biology. Our lab explores a diverse set of subjects, including sperm function and physiology, and nano-technology and creation of novel medical diagnostics. The successful candidate will work on both NIH funded research aiming to investigate lipid regulation of ion channels in human and mouse sperm, as well as an externally-funded project on diagnostics for viral diseases.
The successful candidate will:
Designandimplementexperimentalprocedurestoinvestigatelipid-channel interactions in reproduction and metabolism;
Utilizeawiderangeofapproachesincludingbiochemical,molecular,cellularand biophysical (particularly microscopy);
Designandperformexperimentalprocedurestoadvanceadiagnosticthatcan distinguish among multiple viruses that cause similar symptoms (e.g., distinguish among viral respiratory pathogens);
Utilizeawiderangeoftechniquesunderthebroadheadingofvirologyincluding nucleic acid extraction, protein purification, protein biochemistry, protein-protein interactions, enzyme assays, and tissue culture;
Supportandco-leadwritingofscientificpapersandgrantproposals;
Superviseundergradandgradstudents.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in related fields. Experience with virology, cell biology, biochemistry, cell culture, and enzyme assays is desired. Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential for participating in our multi-disciplinary team. Strong work ethic, creativity, enthusiasm, and ability to work in a team are required.
This is a Full-time, one-year appointment with possible extension depending on funding and performance.
The salary range for this position is $59,592 to $90,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
