The Ocho is an 8" two-way based on the SB Acoustics SB20PFC30-8 and a tweeter in the SEOS8 dome tweeter waveguide. Thanks to JR, I have some tweeters in house that look like reasonable candidates to try with the SEOS8 (the Seas 27TFFC). This project got started when a friend let me know about a pair of speakers at a thrift store and wondered if he should pick them up and how much to offer. I couldn't resist so I said $20 and they took it. They are some old Mitsubishi's that probably aren't good, but the cabinets are pretty heavy. The model number is M-FS8.
When I first received the speakers, I returned them to something approaching their stock form and listened. These were actually somewhat competently designed and sounded pretty neutral. They measured reasonably well on axis as well.
Further listening revealed the primary issue with 8" two-ways. The directivity between the woofer and tweeter didn't match very well and that ultimately led to some excess energy just above the crossover point, which became fatiguing. The ultimate solution was to use these cabinets to create the Ocho's, which would hopefully address the directivity issue. The cabinets have about a 47 liter internal volume, which works very well for a bass reflex alignment for the SB Acoustics SB20PFC30-8 woofer I had planned for this project. The model predicts bass response 3 dB down at 38 Hz.
