Privacy Policy for See Food
Last Updated: May 28, 2026
Your privacy is extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy describes how the **See Food** mobile application ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") handles your personal information when you use our services.
See Food is designed to be a utility tool that respects your privacy. We collect the absolute minimum amount of information required to provide you with fast, accurate food label and barcode analysis.
1. Information We Collect and How We Use It
A. Camera Access (Device Permissions)
What we collect: Real-time video/photo feed when you actively use the scanner.
Why we use it: The App requires access to your device's camera to allow you to capture photos of food ingredient labels and scan barcodes.
How it is handled: The camera feed is processed entirely in real-time. We **never** record, store, or monitor your camera stream in the background.
B. Image and Ingredient Analysis Data
What we collect: The ingredient label photo you capture or the barcode digits scanned.
Why we use it: Captured label photos are securely transmitted to our backend analysis API (powered by Gemini AI) to identify products and parse ingredients. Barcodes are looked up against public grocery databases.
How it is handled: Images are transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) solely for the purpose of generating your immediate nutritional breakdown. We do not store your uploaded images on our servers once the real-time analysis is complete, nor do we use your images to train AI models.
C. Local History and Preferences (On-Device Storage)
What we collect: Your scan history, custom dietary warnings list, scan count quotas, and onboarding states.
Why we use it: To allow you to browse your historical scans, save favorite products, and configure warning preferences.
How it is handled: All of this data is stored exclusively on your physical device using local sandboxed storage (AsyncStorage). We do not host or sync your scan history or custom ingredient settings on any external servers. If you delete the App, this data is permanently erased from your device.
D. Purchase and Billing Data (In-App Purchases)
What we collect: Translucent subscription purchase states and receipt validation hashes.
Why we use it: To securely manage, validate, and restore your See Food Premium subscription.
How it is handled: We use RevenueCat to facilitate in-app purchases. RevenueCat handles payment validation anonymously and securely. We do not collect or store your billing address, credit card numbers, or bank details; these transactions are handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

2. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. To perform critical app functions, we securely connect with the following trusted service providers:
1. Google Gemini API (via Secure Proxy Backend): Processes captured label images to perform real-time nutritional and ingredient analysis. No personally identifiable information is sent.
2. RevenueCat: Validates and manages your Premium subscription status anonymously via standard App Store and Google Play validation tokens.
3. Open Food Facts API: Looks up scanned barcodes to pull publicly available ingredients list configurations.
3. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical security measures to protect your information during transmission. All network calls between the App and our backend services are encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) / Transport Layer Security (TLS) technology.
4. Children’s Privacy
See Food does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13. Because our App collects no account registration profiles or persistent personal identifiers, we do not monitor or profile user demographics. If you believe we have inadvertently gathered any data from a child under 13, please contact us so we can verify and ensure its immediate removal.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App or on our official website and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document.
