Vietnamese American Initiative for Development (VietAid) is a nonprofit organization In Dorchester dedicated to serving newly arrived Vietnamese Immigrants with adequate translation services and financial assistance to better advance civic participation and alleviate poverty in the Fields Corner area. As of 2022, VietAID's youth leaders have been working alongside city council members to create a collaborative community garden that fosters relationships within the neighborhood as well as promotes sustainable food production. Kinh Ha, Family Engagement and Enrollment Specialist
Kinh is a first-generation Vietnamese American. He Immigrated to Boston at the age of 5, and now works as a family engagement and enrollment specialist at VietAID to help accommodate immigrant families with needs pertaining to housing, translation, and schooling enrollment. In this interview, I asked him about his work with VietAID, the importance of community for Vietnamese people in Boston, and how gardening may relate to assimilation.
