An atelier, in the Reggio Emilia approach to schooling in Italy, is a creative studio or workshop where children explore ideas through art, materials, design, building, movement, light, nature, and other hands-on experiences. It is a place for wondering, experimenting, problem-solving, and expressing thinking in many different “languages,” not just words. In the atelier, children are seen as capable, curious learners whose creativity helps them make sense of the world.

At the heart of our homeschool support program is the Atelier: a warm, creative studio space inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to learning. 

In the Atelier, children are invited to explore ideas through art, building, storytelling, nature, movement, light, texture, and hands-on materials. We believe children learn deeply when they are given time, space, and encouragement to wonder, experiment, create, and express their thinking in many different ways.

Our Atelier is not simply an art room. It is a place for curiosity, problem-solving, collaboration, and joyful discovery, where each child’s questions and interests help shape the learning experience.

Our Portable Atelier Experience brings the wonder, creativity, and hands-on exploration of an atelier directly to your homeschool group, learning pod, co-op, or community space.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, our portable Atelier is designed to transform any space into a rich, creative learning environment. We bring thoughtfully selected materials, open-ended invitations, and project-based experiences that encourage children to explore, build, design, question, imagine, and express their ideas in many different ways.

Each Atelier experience is more than an art activity. It is an opportunity for children to think like artists, engineers, storytellers, scientists, and problem-solvers. Through natural materials, loose parts, light, texture, color, movement, and making, children are invited to follow their curiosity and create meaningful work.

Our portable model allows families and homeschool communities to enjoy the benefits of an atelier without needing a permanent studio space. We provide the setup, materials, guidance, and creative framework so children can engage in joyful, purposeful, hands-on learning wherever they are.

Our work is also informed by Dr. Norman’s direct study of the Reggio Emilia approach. In 2022, Dr. Norman traveled to Reggio Emilia, Italy, where she participated in a three-day, hands-on exploration of this internationally respected educational philosophy. That experience continues to shape our belief that children are capable, curious learners who deserve rich environments, meaningful materials, and opportunities to express their ideas in many different ways.
