About SEECRs

Scottish Epistemology Early Career Researchers (SEECRs) is a network of early career and postgraduate epistemologists based in, or with research links to, Scotland. Our aims are to support the development of a community of early career epistemologists across Scotland; to foster collaboration between researchers at different universities, as well as researchers who are not currently affiliated with any university; and to create opportunities for early career epistemologists to share and receive feedback on their work.

SEECRs was founded in 2021, after Ross met Angie and Lilith at the 10th Edinburgh Graduate Epistemology Conference. There, we decided to make concrete the idea which Dario, Angie and Lilith had been discussing for years: of creating a friendly, supportive network of postgraduate and early career epistemologists across different Scottish universities.

Since 2021, we have been running regular online WiP sessions, which provide an opportunity for ECRs to discuss a work-in-progress paper with a friendly group of epistemologists. In 2022, we held an in-person workshop at the University of Edinburgh where we discussed five full drafts over the course of a day, with generous funding from University of Edinburgh, KnowledgeLab, and COGITO. Then, in 2023, we hosted the 1st Scottish Graduate Conference in Applied Epistemology, at the University of Glasgow, with generous funding from the Royal Institute of Philosophy, Scots Philosophical Association, KnowledgeLab, COGITO, and the University of Glasgow. We also hosted an in-person workshop in August 2023 at the University of St Andrews where five papers were responded to by SEECRs members and discussed by attendees.
