Dress Rehearsal
Dress Rehearsal is a practice run for the Recital. This is the opportunity to make sure you know how to get to the theater, do hair and makeup appropriately, and let your dancer see where they will be performing and provide familiarity to the stage.
Dress Rehearsal is REQUIRED for all dancers.
All dancers will arrive at the start of dress rehearsal. We will run through the finale first, then run though the dances according to the dress rehearsal schedule. Most dances will get to run through their dance twice. After your dancer has practiced all of their dances, you are free to leave for the day or stay and watch.
Dancers need to have their hair and makeup fixed just like for the recital. This gives you an opportunity to make adjustments.
Tiffany Cassidy Photography will also be taking live photos of dress rehearsal.
Recital Day
Do hair & make-up at home but bring your supplies with you to touch up and fix as needed.
Arrive by your dancer’s “call time” and get dressed at the theater. DO NOT wear tights or costumes in the car. This is an accident waiting to happen!! It’s very easy for tights to get snagged and torn and for costumes to get stained.
Dancers will stay in the dressing room for the entire act in which they are dancing. For dancers only performing in the 1st or 2nd act, they may sit and watch in the audience for the half of the show they are NOT performing in.
NO COSTUMES IN THE AUDIENCE before or during the recital. Dancers watching the show must wear regular clothes in the audience and change into their costume in the dressing room
The majority of the dancers will be using the band hall as a dressing room. There are side rooms which may be used for changing privately. Dancers may not leave the band hall unaccompanied. They must be with a parent or guardian to leave. We will project the show in the band hall so that the dancers may watch the show while waiting.
Your dancer will need to remove all fingernail polish (and toenail polish if dancing barefoot) prior to Dress Rehearsal.
Be sure to put your name &/or initials in EVERY PIECE OF COSTUME, TIGHTS, & DANCE SHOE! There have been costume mix-ups/lost pieces in the past and this is very common! You will also want your name on your brushes, combs, and makeup. We always have several make-up and hair items left after recital.
Costumes
Wrinkles - You can use a steamer to remove wrinkles or hang the costumes upside down in the bathroom while you shower. Take care that the costume is laying flat/smoothly in the costume bag when placing it inside. Tutus should be hung upside down with the hook of the hanger going through the leg holes.
Scratchy Sequins - Cover scratchy sequins with clear packing tape. Sequins that are actually inside the costume can be carefully split & removed from the thread. Seam binding is also a good idea on actual seams.
Alterations - Minor alterations such as shortening straps may be needed. These alterations can be done by you or done by Mrs. Kathy for $10 per costume.
Ballet Shoes
Remove any tape or stickers. For leather shoes, gently use a baby wipe or leather cleaner. Use caution as to not remove the leather paint. For cloth shoes, wash in the washing machine but DO NOT dry. After washing, have your dancer put their shoes on WET to slightly stretch them before they air dry.
Tap Shoes
Replace ribbon ties with black ¼” elastic. Loop it through the eyes and sew ends together (or tie in knot). Make sure it is tight enough not to kick off. Remove all tap and stickers. Use Goo Gone or a Magic Eraser to remove any residue or marks. You may use a black Sharpie marker to touch up the color.
Jazz Shoes
Remove any tape or stickers. For leather shoes, gently use a baby wipe or leather cleaner. Use caution as to not remove the leather paint. For cloth shoes, wash in the washing machine but DO NOT dry. After washing, have your dancer put their shoes on WET to slightly stretch them before they air dry.
Hip Hop Shoes
Remove any tape or stickers. Use Goo Gone or a Magic Eraser to remove any residue or scuffs.
