In-State Tuition Appeal Process:
Helpful Information & Tips
Start early: From the moment you enter the UGA campus, start contemplating the process of becoming an in-state student
Get your Georgia driver’s license
If you can, get a residence (it’s cheaper to rent than to stay on campus anyway)
Keep all your leases and house bills
If you have a car, make sure it's registered in the state of Georgia
For more information: https://georgia.gov/register-vehicle
Get a stream of income, file taxes as a Georgia resident
Save your W2s
Make sure you are not claimed as a dependent on anyone's tax forms (yes, ask your parents not to claim you if you can)
This is very important. The committee wants to see you have established *legal* independence, filing your taxes is the most important step
There are several forms that could be used for the process, make sure to read through all of them and pick the one that best pertains to you!
